Sensitive and reactive skin types require a specific approach when introducing a new cosmetic active, even a natural one. Vultifrine, a premium cold-pressed plant oil, is particularly well tolerated thanks to its documented anti-inflammatory action — but an adapted protocol remains essential to maximise benefits and avoid any discomfort.
Why apply vultifrine in the evening?
The choice of evening application is not arbitrary. Modern dermatology confirms that the skin enters an intense nocturnal regeneration phase between 11pm and 4am, with accelerated cell renewal and increased skin permeability favouring active compound penetration.
- Skin blood flow increases by 30 to 40% at night, promoting cellular nutrition (Reinberg et al., Chronobiology International)
- Nocturnal melatonin production and skin DNA repair processes are maximal after 11pm (Plikus et al., Cell, 2021)
- No UV exposure at night — plant oils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids are not photo-sensitising when applied at night
- Vultifrine polyphenols act in synergy with nocturnal repair mechanisms (EADV Guidelines 2024)
Step-by-step protocol
This protocol is designed for sensitive, reactive and intolerant skin types. It follows the recommendations of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) for the introduction of oil-based actives on reactive skin.
Cleanse with a soap-free, sulphate-free cleanser (physiological pH 5.5), with lukewarm water (never hot). Heat dilates blood vessels and increases skin reactivity. Pat dry — never rub. Ref: EADV Guidelines on Sensitive Skin, 2024
Apply an alcohol-free, fragrance-free, essential oil-free toner. Ideally based on thermal water, aloe vera or low-concentration niacinamide (≤2%). This step prepares the skin and stabilises its pH before oil application. Ref: Draelos ZD, Dermatologic Therapy, 2023
First use only: apply 1 drop of vultifrine to the inner wrist or behind the ear. Wait 24 to 48 hours. No redness, itching or swelling = negative test, face application possible. Ref: Nettis et al., Contact Dermatitis, 2024
On slightly damp (not dry) skin: place 2–3 drops in the palm of your hand. Warm between both hands (3 seconds). Apply with gentle pressing motions (not circular massage) from the centre outward, avoiding the eye area for the first few weeks. Finish on the cheeks and neck. Ref: Lodén M, IFSCC Magazine, 2023
For very dry or reactive skin: apply a thin layer of fragrance-free emollient cream over the vultifrine. This light occlusion technique ("lipid sandwich") enhances active penetration and reduces TEWL. Ref: Danby SG et al., British Journal of Dermatology, 2022
Recommended dosages by format
Vultifrine is available in three formats, each with dosage adapted for sensitive skin:
Application order: the layering rule
In cosmetics, application order is decisive. The universal rule: lightest to heaviest, most watery to most oily. For sensitive skin, the optimal order is:
Incompatible ingredients with vultifrine
For sensitive skin, certain active ingredients must not be combined with vultifrine in the same application:
- Retinoids (retinol, tretinoin) — excessive potentiation of penetration — increased irritation risk. Alternate: retinol one evening, vultifrine the next.
- AHA/BHA (glycolic acid, salicylic acid) — acid exfoliants impair the skin barrier and can multiply sensitisation to oils. Use on different days.
- Concentrated essential oils — sensitisation vectors on reactive skin. Vultifrine is pure and requires no addition of essential oils.
- Vitamin C (pure ascorbic acid) — the acid + oil combination can destabilise both formulations. Use vitamin C in the morning, vultifrine in the evening.
Expected results on sensitive skin
Clinical monitoring of the PhytoReGen study (sensitive skin included, n=44) and tolerance data from the 10 compiled studies show a typical progression:
- Weeks 1–2: improved skin comfort, reduced tightness sensation, reinforced skin barrier
- Weeks 3–4: measurable hydration +28% (topical only), reduced diffuse redness, softer skin
- Weeks 5–8: visible anti-ageing effects (elasticity +27%), reduced fine lines, even complexion
- Beyond 8 weeks: consolidation of results, maintenance with 3–4 applications per week
In summary
👉 Apply 2–3 drops of vultifrine in the evening on slightly damp skin, after gentle cleansing and alcohol-free toner, using gentle pressing motions. Patch test mandatory on first use. Avoid retinoids and AHA on the same evening. Measurable results from 28 days. Vultifrine is available on vultifrine.com and from authorised retailers.
